In musical terms, what is copy and what is inspiration. All i know is Deva copies a lot of songs. Inspiration, according to me is, a smart way of copying and nothing more than that.

I remember seeing an interview of Kamalhassan some years back. The question asked was something about Illayaraja. As usual, he gave a lengthy speech on him(everything true though). At some point he told something similar to this. "Whenever i hear a very good song or very different song from other languages, sometimes i think that it will be great if i had the same song in my movie. Once i asked Illayaraja to include one such song in my movie. He was not very comfortable with that idea. But, in no time, he composed a new song for me, which was in similar lines to the song that i proposed but still had the freshness of a new song. I know i am contradicting myself, but, such is the greatness of Illayaraja.
Kamal sonna ethavathu vishayam irukkum. Getting inspired requires something more than what i thought. So, we will consider his as the benchmark definition for getting inspired.

There is some problem in the website which hosts the songs below. If the songs in the links are totally irrelevant to this post, plz ignore the links.

Now, hear the song below. Is it inspired or copied?

Utter copy. Harris Jeyaraj tries to do a Illayaraja but ends up doing a Deva.

One more copied song. Here you go.

Tamil Song

This looks like a more blatant copy than 'June ponal' song.

Dig http://itwofs.com/ to unearth lot more copies and inspirations. There were lot of copied songs from different music directors. I don't have a specific reason why i chose Harris Jayaraj's songs.

My understanding of inspiration and copy was well and fine until i heard this.

Tamil Song:

Double blow
1.Even illayaraja copies!!!!!!!!(Must/might be the only song he copied in his whole career, i guess/hope)
2.One of my favourite song is a copy!!!!!

For me, Illayaraja is always the best. When it comes to melodies, variety songs, he is the Emperor. Pretenders, just stay away.

I have a doubt. I searched for a program in Google. I copied the code into my module. I changed all the variable names and function names. Now, is this called a copy or inspiration??

Kireedom

Ajith is easily the worst among current tamil heroes when it comes to script sense and movie selection. Oflate, most of the Ajith Movies i saw were awful. In the first place, i was not able to watch some of his recent flicks completely. In other words, i wasnt able tolerate the movie after some point.

Paramasivan - I couldn't watch after 1.5 hours. The story was very much outdated. When Vijayakanth and Arjun are there to fight the terrorists and save India, why should Ajith also do the same.
Tirupathi - Mudiyala...Gave up after 15 minutes. Probably this is the only movie i quit watching even before the heroine introduction.
Godfather - This time i succeeded in watching the whole film. After seeing all those hype in the orkut communities, i expected the movie to be too good. Movie was good but not that great as it was hyped. Definitely not worth the hype at all.
Alwar - Stopped watching after 45 minutes. Also, came to a conclusion that the 15 minutes of Tirupathi movie i saw was better. My bad, it took 45 minutes of my time to realize that.

Kiredom is definitely umpteen times better than Ajiths recent craps. There is nothing new in the story. Its all about how a single incident and its consequences affects the hero. Atleast a dozen films have come in tamil based on this theme. Dhill, Dhool, Thamizh to name a few.

Ajith.. He has done his part too well. His acting was superb especially when he pleads to the villain gang in one scene. One of the surprising thing about this movie is, there is no punch dialogue from Ajith. Yes, you read it correct, no punch dialogues.
Rajkiran.. Indha aalukku enna aachunnu theriala, he is acting too well nowadays.
Trisha.. Looked stunning, mindblowing, gorgeous. hmmm... hmm. sorry, i ran out of adjectives.
Vivek.. Brings laughter in one or two places. Rest are mokkais.
Music.. Songs are good.

Its an irony that the hero sings "Jeyikum varai vilayaadu" in the beginning and ends up as a loser in the climax. Still, the climax is a daring attempt. Usually, all ends well in tamil movies, but Kireedom is an exception.

A decent movie.
Definitely watchable once.
